Jamie Kay MacKenzie is a New York based artist known for her ethereal paintings. In her figurative work, she's interested in exploring the emotional and spiritual lives of her subjects, and forging a psychical connection to their past. Each piece serves as a kind of vessel for shared memories and experiences between people, combining the poignantly personal with an inclusive universality. She was born in North Carolina, raised in Maine and Maryland. She has studied fine art at the Carver Center for Arts & Technology, the Maryland Institute College of Art, and at the New School. Jamie worked professionally as a sailor on tall ships, followed by years of working closely with the painter Philip Pearlstein as his assistant. She has worked as an archivist for sculptor Bernar Venet and assisted Emanuela Frattini Magnusson with her work in Design & Architecture. She currently lives somewhere over the rainbow where she paints and runs her father’s small business MacKenzie Woodworks.
